Muslim Advocates Receives Gift From MacKenzie Scott

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, philanthropist MacKenzie Scott announced that she has given away “$2,739,000,000 in gifts to 286 high-impact organizations in categories and communities that have been historically underfunded and overlooked.” Muslim Advocates was among the recipients of these gifts. Below is a statement from Muslim Advocates Executive Director Farhana Khera:

“We thank MacKenzie Scott for this extremely generous gift. This money will help further the mission of our Muslim-led organization that is accountable to the Muslim community and works to secure the rights of Muslims and all people.

In making her announcement, Ms. Scott emphasized her commitment to equity-oriented nonprofits and her desire to support religious minorities experiencing discrimination. With this gift, Ms. Scott recognizes the tremendous work and accomplishments of our dedicated staff, past and present—accomplishments fueled by our donors, allies and supporters over the years.

Muslim Advocates helps incarcerated Muslims observe Ramadan, reunites families torn apart by the Muslim Ban, helps local Muslims overcome bigotry to build mosques and cemeteries, holds Facebook and other tech companies accountable for anti-Muslim hate online and so much more. This gift from Ms. Scott ensures not only that this vital work continues but also that we can do even more to fight anti-Muslim bigotry and ensure freedom, justice and equality for all.”
