Muslim Advocates and Dulles Justice Coalition Announce Joint Partnership to Combat Bigotry and Discrimination

Washington, DC – Today, Muslim Advocates and the Dulles Justice Coalition (DJC) are announcing a joint partnership to advance civil and human rights.

DJC is a nonpartisan alliance of individual volunteers from legal non-profits, law firms, and all walks of life formed in the days following President Trump’s original Muslim ban. DJC mobilized over 1,500 volunteers who showed up at Washington Dulles International Airport in the immediate aftermath of the President’s bigoted executive order and provided critical legal resources and other support to impacted travelers and their families. DJC’s efforts, which have since expanded to address other discriminatory policies from the Trump administration, have garnered national acclaim and recognition.

Muslim Advocates is a national legal advocacy and education organization working to guarantee freedom and justice for Americans of all faiths.  With each iteration of President Trump’s Muslim ban, Muslim Advocates has challenged the policy as unconstitutional and contrary to fundamental American values and beliefs.

In this new collaboration, DJC and Muslim Advocates will join forces to defend individuals and communities who are unjustly targeted and to push back against unlawful and discriminatory policies at the federal, state, and local levels. The organizations will work together to develop trainings and resources and to mobilize a rapid-response network of volunteers who are working on issues related to the Muslim ban, immigrants’ rights, and other civil rights matters.

“Ever since President Trump unveiled his first Muslim ban, the Dulles Justice Coalition has been on the front lines defending and supporting impacted individuals and affirming our nation’s core values and beliefs,” said Johnathan Smith, legal director of Muslim Advocates.  “We are honored to join forces with them and are confident that through this partnership we can strengthen our efforts to ensure that no one is targeted or discriminated against simply because of what they believe or where they come from.”

“We are delighted to embark on this partnership with Muslim Advocates, an organization that has been on the front lines of defending the civil rights of Muslims and other communities impacted by discriminatory policies,” said Olivier Kamanda, Chair of the Board of the Dulles Justice Coalition. “Through this partnership we can build upon our platform and volunteer resources to better defend the Muslim and immigrant communities who have been most affected by discriminatory policies. We are taking this fight from the airports to our neighborhoods and communities, and we can think of no better partner for this effort.”
