Court Cases

Obeidallah v. Anglin

Case Overview

Muslim Advocates represents prominent American Muslim comedian and political commentator Dean Obeidallah after the neo-Nazi and white supremacist website, the Daily Stormer, and its publisher, Andrew Anglin, falsely accused him of terroristic activities.

In June 2017, The Daily Stormer, a prominent neo-Nazi and white supremacist website, published an article claiming that well-known American Muslim comedian and political commentator Dean Obeidallah was the mastermind of the Manchester bombings. The article refers to Dean as an “ISIS terrorist” and “the mastermind behind the Machester [sic] Arianacaust,” i.e., the Manchester bombing. It also alleges that Dean is a “confessed terrorist warranted by Europol, MI-5, Interpol and a litany of other international authorities.”

As a result of this article, Dean received violent threats and harassing messages, and has suffered emotional distress and harm to his reputation. Although Dean, through counsel, sent Anglin and The Daily Stormer a cease and desist letter, the article remains on the website.

On August 16, 2017, Muslim Advocates, along with the law firm of Latham & Watkins LLP and the Chandra Law Firm, filed a defamation action in Ohio federal court against Andrew Anglin, the Daily Stormer, and Moonbase Holdings.
