Mary Bauer serves as the legal director at Muslim Advocates, developing legal advocacy strategies and supporting the legal team to protect the rights of American Muslims and other marginalized communities.
Before joining Muslim Advocates, Ms. Bauer served as General Counsel to Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc. (CDM), where she supported migrant workers in protecting their rights. She has also served as Deputy Legal Director of the Immigrant Justice Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Executive Director of the Legal Aid Justice Center, Legal Director of the SPLC, and Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Virginia.
An expert on immigrant worker issues, Ms. Bauer has testified before Congress on numerous occasions and is the author of several highly regarded reports, including Close to Slavery: Guestworker Programs in the United States.
She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and the College of William and Mary.
