Senior Digital Strategist

The Senior Digital Strategist shapes our digital advocacy efforts, social media presence and digital events, as well as supports broader communications efforts—all to educate the public and make tangible strides towards justice. We need someone who possesses top-tier digital skills and creative abilities, and also cares deeply about civil rights. An ideal candidate for the job pays attention to minute details, skillfully manages people and projects, has a passion for artistic expression, can thrive in a fast-paced environment and knows how to communicate with numerous, intersecting communities respectfully.

This hire manages one Digital Manager and will report to our Communications Director. The Communications Director leads the Public Advocacy Department, which serves as the communications and campaigns arm of Muslim Advocates, engages with the media and online stakeholders and grows the public profile of the organization. This is a full-time, remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy: Develops and manages the organization’s overall digital strategy, maintains the organization’s digital presence across multiple platforms and oversees production of high-quality digital products and events.
  • Email: Leads on drafting, formatting and sending informational and advocacy emails to supporters, works with the Development Department to craft fundraising emails to our supporters and donors, and works to grow our email list and utilize it to achieve advocacy wins.
  • Ads: Leads on managing and creating digital ads on Google and social media channels.
  • Social Media: Manages our social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, including handling quality control and overseeing the production of social media posts that promote the organization’s work, comment on current events and share original content.
  • Website: Manages the organization’s website, including working with contractors and vendors to provide technical assistance, ensuring optimal SEO and accessibility and leading on the creation of new content.
  • Events: Produces and manages digital presentations, including streamed virtual events and live panel discussions.
  • Digital Products: Manages the production of a wide variety of high-quality digital products for multiple departments including images for use in press releases, social media and emails; videos; designed fundraising documents; know-your-rights documents and public reports.
  • Analytics: Monitors and records who accesses the organization’s website—as well as social media, ads and email productions—and ensures that our digital/online efforts are informed by data.
  • Style: Manages and maintains the visual brand integrity of the organization.
  • Teamwork: Manages and mentors a direct report and works collaboratively with the Communications Director and with staff in other departments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience working in digital advocacy or communications.
  • Proven experience creating and editing high-quality digital content (images, videos, documents, websites, emails) and proficiency with graphic design tools like Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts for an organization including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Proven experience managing an email list on a CRM program like EveryAction and Salesforce.
  • Proven experience creating and managing websites through a content management system like WordPress.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills, ability to pay close attention to detail, ability to produce professional content under deadlines and a commitment to high-quality standards.
  • Experience and comfort working respectfully with multiple, diverse communities including American Muslims, other faith communities and LGBTQ+ communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An eye for artistic expression with an ability to quickly create eye-catching, professional visual content.
  • A working knowledge of the modern civil rights and political landscape, as well as issues affecting American Muslim communities.
  • Ability to work east coast hours.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary range is $80,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience. Muslim Advocates offers a generous benefits package including full health insurance coverage, fourteen paid holidays, and an employer 401K match.
