FOIA Request Overview

In February 2018, Muslim Advocates submitted a Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request asking for documents regarding a draft report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) that recommended the government undertake surveillance of Sunni Muslim immigrants to the United States.

In February 2018, Foreign Affairs published excerpts from the draft report prepared by CBP that discussed a biased selection of terrorism incidents and used them to support the conclusion that Sunni Muslim immigrants should be subjected to ongoing scrutiny by the government for national security reasons. Muslim Advocates requested documents concerning the report and its drafting. The request is still pending.
