FOIA Request Overview

In the aftermath of the issuance of the first Muslim Ban, news reports indicated that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials coerced numerous individuals into signing forms that resulted in the withdrawal of their applications for admission or the relinquishment of their lawful permanent resident status. In March 2017, Muslim Advocates, along with the Roderick & Solange MacArthur Justice Center and the law firm Jenner & Block LLP, submitted a Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request aimed at obtaining additional information about the government’s use of Form I-407, the signing of which results in the abandonment of lawful permanent resident status.
