Colorado CVE Requests
FOIA Request Overview
In October 2018, Muslim Advocates filed requests under state and federal freedom of information laws seeking information about the operation of Countering Violent Extremism (“CVE”) programs in Denver, Colorado.
In response to a $481,313 U.S. Department of Homeland Security CVE grant received by the Denver Police Department in January 2017, Muslim Advocates submitted records requests to the Denver Police Department, Denver Public Schools, Denver Office of Immigration and Refugee Affairs, and the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys. The requests seek documents that illuminate the how these agencies are cooperating to develop and implement the proposed CVE program, which is targeted at Denver’s immigrant, refugee, Muslim, and minority communities.
