Case Overview

Muslim Advocates is representing the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), in their efforts to obtain documentation about the Trump administration’s Extreme Vetting initiative.

In the wake of the Muslim Ban, the Trump administration announced it was instituting a series of new procedures to screen visa applicants, which it grouped under the name “extreme vetting.” When the NIAC filed a Freedom of Information Act request seeking to understand the new procedures, the U.S. Department of State refused to produce the documents. Muslim Advocates stepped in to represent NIAC in a lawsuit to force the State Department to turn over the documents.
