Muslim Advocates v. U.S. Department of Justice, et al. (No. 2)

Case Overview

Muslim Advocates filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to gain additional information about the federal government’s systematic efforts to strip naturalized Americans of their citizenship.

The lawsuit was filed after several federal agencies refused or ignored a January 2018 Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request for information related to the federal government’s “denaturalization efforts,” including Operation Janus, led by the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “Operation Janus,” a joint effort by the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is a program where the federal agencies reviewed files of naturalized citizens to ferret out missing information in naturalization applications that could render American citizens eligible for denaturalization.
