Muslim Advocates Organizational Statement on the Shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego
Muslim Advocates grieves the lives of Amin Abdullah, Nader Awad, and Mansour Kaziha who were tragically killed in a deadly shooting attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, on May 18, 2026. They were each murdered while protecting their community; we honor their sacrifices and recognize the anguish their families and loved ones are enduring.
Muslim Advocates Executive Director Omar Farah issued the following statement:
“We were deeply saddened by this tragedy and are in solidarity with the Islamic Center of San Diego in this moment of profound loss and anti-Muslim violence.
“No one should have to fear violence when they enter their place of worship. Yet people of many faith traditions, and certainly Muslim communities, are all too familiar with the experience of being targeted for the way they worship, where they come from, or how they look.
This tragedy did not happen in a vacuum. The government itself devalues Muslim life and has enabled anti-Muslim violence by constantly portraying our communities as inherent threats. As the Muslim communities in San Diego and beyond are mourning, we all should resolve to confront anti-Muslim hate, starting with holding those in power accountable for their hateful rhetoric and for weaponizing the government against Muslim communities and others it disfavors.
“Just as our communities’ commitment to its faith and identities is unshakable, Muslim Advocates will remain committed to the fight for justice and accountability for all.”
