Preparing for 2025 and Beyond

Recent election outcomes have necessitated a surge of activity from organizations fighting for racial and social justice. Muslim Advocates is no exception. In all of my time as Senior Policy Counsel, I cannot recall when our work has been so urgent and on so many fronts.  For our team, the past few weeks have been devoted to strategic and coordinated advocacy with and for our communities. We’ve been:

  • Fighting hard against H.R. 9495, a dangerous bill that threatens non-profits, including Muslim Advocates and our partners. We blasted letters to legislators and helped activate the public to oppose the bill, which would empower the government to strip non-profits of their tax exemption with no evidence or fair process;
  • Meeting with members of the current administration and Congress and providing them written demands and recommendations—including about Congressional resolutions disapproving continued arms sales to the Israeli government—before the next administration assumes power; and
  • Successfully promoting the confirmation of judges who come from our communities and who can add sorely needed representation to the federal judiciary, which is a crucial check on presidential power.

This is just a snapshot of the sweep of high-stakes work underway at Muslim Advocates.
