Memo Urging Biden Administration to Correct Anti-Muslim Bias

As the U.S.-supported Israeli regime continues its genocide in Gaza, we at Muslim Advocates recognize that Palestinian, Black, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian communities face the brunt of imperialism, discrimination, and dehumanization in the U.S. and across the globe. Since October 2023 Muslim Advocates has consistently urged the Administration to heed our communities’ call to stop arming Israel in its ongoing genocide of Palestinians, and broker an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

From ending the discriminatory Watchlist to fulfilling President Biden’s campaign promise to eliminate discriminatory and ineffective Countering Violent Extremism programs, the U.S. government needs to take decisive and prompt steps to unwind its long history of targeting Black, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian communities on the basis of racism and bias.

We submitted this memo in partnership with allies urging the Biden Administration to take immediate steps to correct the anti-Muslim bias embedded in its own practices. The White House’s forthcoming National Strategy to Combat Islamophobia must address the specific practices we identify as urgent priorities for eradicating systemic anti-Muslim bias, which is “uniquely embedded in federal, state, and local policies, programs, and practices.”
