Muslim Advocates’s 2022 Congressional Iftar was held on April 28 on Capitol Hill.

The ceremony’s guests of honor were Muslim congressional staffers and federal employees who work in public service in Congress and beyond.

The event was started with a Quran recited by Safiya Khan followed by remarks from our guest speakers

  • Suhail A. Khan, fmr. Congressional staffer for Rep. Tom Campbell
  • Arshi Siddiqui, fmr. Congressional staffer for Speaker Nancy Pelosi
  • Jameel Johnson, fmr. chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks
  • Faiz Shakir, fmr. senior advisor to the late Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid and 2020 Bernie Sanders campaign chair

A celebrity video message celebrating Muslim congressional staffers was broadcast at the event with shoutouts from Academy Award winners Riz Ahmed and Mahersalah Ali; Ms. Marvel co-creator G. Willow Wilson; comedian Maz Jobrani; Irvine, CA Mayor Farrah Khan and NYC OATH Commissioner Asim Rehman.

A full Iftar dinner was provided for guests who were free to network with fellow American Muslims working in public service.
