Muslim Advocates Urges House to Pass Resolution Condemning Trump’s Racism
‘You Either Condemn the President’s Racism or Co-Sign it’
WASHINGTON, DC — The following is a statement from Madihha Ahussain, Muslim Advocates’ special counsel for anti-Muslim bigotry, calling on all members of the House of Representatives to vote in favor of the resolution—sponsored by Congressman Tom Malinowski and co-sponsored by Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib and others—that condemns President Trump’s racist comments:
“This is a line in the sand for members of Congress: you either condemn the president’s racism or co-sign it.
Trump made his name in politics by peddling the anti-Muslim, anti-black birther conspiracy; called Mexicans rapists in his first campaign speech; enacted the Muslim Ban; called violent neo-Nazis ‘very fine people;’ cruelly separates immigrant children from their parents at the southern border; welcomed open bigots like Sebastian Gorka and Steve Bannon into his White House; told congresswomen of color to ‘go back’ to their countries and falsified a claim that Rep. Ilhan Omar supported Al Qaeda.
President Trump has made it crystal clear that he has no remorse about any of this and will continue to make racist, anti-Muslim, white nationalist appeals a core part of his 2020 campaign strategy. We are far beyond politics as usual. House members who vote to condemn the president’s explicit racism will send a message that this hate has no place in our politics while those who vote against the resolution will be standing on the side of racism and white nationalism.”
Muslim Advocates is a national civil rights organization working in the courts, in the halls of power and in communities to halt bigotry in its tracks. We ensure that American Muslims have a seat at the table with expert representation so that all Americans may live free from hate and discrimination.
