MEDIA ALERT: SF Judge to Hear Arguments on Muslim Ban Waiver Suits on Thursday

Muslim Advocates Will be On-Site as Judge Considers Fate of Two Muslim Ban Waiver Lawsuits

WHAT: As President Trump’s Muslim Ban continues to cruelly tear families apart, his administration has failed to follow through on its promise of a meaningful waiver process for people covered by the ban. Emami v. Nielsen, a class action suit brought forth by Muslim Advocates on behalf of 34 individuals who have had waivers from the Muslim Ban wrongfully denied or stalled, is a major legal challenge to Trump’s effectively meaningless waiver policy that faces a crucial test this week.

On Thursday, a federal judge in San Francisco will hear arguments on whether Emami v. Nielsen and Pars v. Pompeo, a related Muslim Ban suit, should proceed or whether the government’s motion to dismiss both cases should prevail.

WHEN: Thursday, July 25. Please plan to arrive by 9:30 AM PT.

WHERE: Courtroom 11, 19th Floor, Phillip Burton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 450 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco, CA 94102

WHO: Muslim Advocates’ Interim Legal Director Sirine Shebaya will be arguing for the Emami plaintiffs at the courthouse and will be available for interviews before and after the hearing. Please email [email protected] or call (202) 670-9560 for any media inquiries. Muslim Advocates External Affairs Strategist Fatima Khan will also be on-site to handle media requests. You can reach her at [email protected] or (617) 216-7098.
