Farhana Khera: Senate Republicans “Making a Mockery of the Confirmation Process”

Kavanaugh Nomination Must Be Withdrawn

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Farhana Khera, executive director of Muslim Advocates, regarding the Senate Judiciary Committee’s inadequate process for addressing sexual assault allegations surrounding Brett Kavanaugh:

As a former Senate Judiciary Committee staffer, I’ve seen the confirmation process in action and functional – used to fully vet, investigate, and question nominees – to safeguard our nation and our Constitution. And yet, instead of relying on this tested system, the Senate Republicans are making a mockery of the confirmation process.

Dr. Blassey Ford, Ms. Ramirez, and, now, Ms. Swetnick, have raised clearly credible and alarming sexual assault allegations. As they have requested, these women and the nation are entitled to a full and fair investigation into these claims by the FBI. No one is entitled to a lifetime promotion to the U.S. Supreme Court. Brett Kavanaugh’s repeated lies, half-truths and misdirection, including while under oath, have destroyed his credibility and shown his true character.  To preserve even a chance of public trust in our nation’s highest court, the White House should withdraw his nomination.
