Muslim Advocates: Trump’s Ramadan Statement “Makes a Mockery of American Muslims”

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Farhana Khera, Executive Director of Muslim Advocates, regarding President Donald Trump’s statement on Ramadan, which concludes, “Ramadan reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of American life.  In the United States, we are all blessed to live under a Constitution that fosters religious liberty and respects religious practice.  Our Constitution ensures Muslims can observe Ramadan in accordance with the dictates of conscience and unimpeded by government.”

“President Trump is correct. Our Constitution does allow all religions to practice freely in our shared, diverse nation. However, the Trump administration  continually tries to supersede the law of our land and ban Muslims.

As our recent report outlines, in addition to vigorously defending the Muslim Ban in court, the administration has been hard at work behind the scenes to enact a web of policies and practices across a range of federal agencies, all with the goal of restricting the entry of Muslims into the country.

President Trump’s statement makes a mockery of American Muslims. We must remain vigilant under this bigotry-ridden administration. Muslim Advocates is committed to doing all we can to protect the right of all to live free from unlawful discrimination and harassment.”

Muslim Advocates is a national legal advocacy and educational organization that works on the frontlines of civil rights to guarantee freedom and justice for Americans of all faiths.
