Muslim Advocates Calls On Congress to Pass Clean Dream Act

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Farhana Khera, executive director for Muslim Advocates, regarding the Trump administration’s disastrous decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“After half-hearted promises to treat Dreamers with compassion and to prove his ‘good heart,’ President Trump turned America’s back on 800,000 young adults this morning and ended the DACA program – a life changing program for all affected and a life saving program for many.

“This decision is not only morally indefensible and fiscally irresponsible, but it also proves, once again, Trump’s commitment to the white supremacist platform.

“Through the DACA program, young adults were able to more fully contribute to our economy and society, to obtain a work permit, a driver’s license, and, in many states, and access in-state tuition. Now, Dreamers will not only be at great risk of deportation, but many of them will lose their jobs, have to drop out of school, and be unable to care for themselves or their families.

“Congress must act. Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader McConnell must bring a clean, bipartisan Dream Act to the floor.

“To our Dreamer allies, friends, and neighbors: we stand with you. #HereToStay”
