Muslim Advocates Responds to Third Defection from Trump Business Council, Encourages Others to Follow Suit

Scott Simpson, public advocacy director of Muslim Advocates, released the following statement in response to the announcement that Disney CEO Bob Iger just resigned from President Trump’s business advisory council. The announcement comes immediately after Tesla CEO Elon Musk resigned and months after Uber head Travis Kalanick stepped down in response to the Muslim ban executive orders. Muslim Advocates and our coalition partners have been urging these CEOs to step down from the advisory council for some time:

“CEOs of conscience are rapidly discovering that you cannot divorce membership in this council from the outrageous actions of the Trump Administration.

Iger marks the third CEO to resign from the advisory council. The other 16 need to wake up to the reality that service on the council makes them accomplices to extreme, reckless and bigoted policies. Now it’s up to the remaining members of the council to decide which side of history they want to stand on.”

Muslim Advocates is a national legal advocacy and educational organization that works on the frontlines of civil rights to guarantee freedom and justice for Americans of all faiths.
