Muslim Advocates Calls Donald Trump Ad an Unprecedented Multimillion Dollar Ad Campaign to Stoke Fear and Hatred of Muslims

Donald Trump has released a television ad that is unrivaled in discriminatory scope and for its hateful content. Trump has reissued his call for a full ban on Muslims entering the United States while implicitly linking all Muslims to violent extremist groups.

Trump’s ad represents a multimillion dollar ad campaign to stoke fear and hatred of Muslims and immigrants that is unprecedented in modern American presidential campaigns. Hateful rhetoric has real, and often violent, consequences for Americans Muslims that are part of communities across our nation.

Since the Paris attacks there have been more than sixty reported hate crimes targeting American Muslims, or people perceived to be Muslim, across the country. We also know that the number of reported hate crimes is likely lower than the actual number of hate crimes experienced by members of the community as many crimes go unreported. We urge all public officials to bring Americans together and to rise above hate and reject extremist rhetoric that scapegoats entire communities.
