The more you know about someone, the harder it is to misunderstand their beliefs and practices.

That’s why Muslim Advocates is proud to have taken a lead role in shaping and launching Know Your Neighbor: a new initiative focused on celebrating America’s diversity and encouraging people to learn more about their fellow Americans launched at a White House event on December 17. The Know Your Neighbor campaign builds on the idea that we can breakdown stereotypes, correct misinformation, and build bridges when we get to know one another—our interests, our beliefs, and our practices.

What are the beliefs and practices that shape and enrich the lives of our neighbors and others in our communities? What are the values that we share with our neighbors? We know that diversity is one of our nation’s greatest strengths but we don’t always take the time to learn about our differences and how they make us stronger together.

Know Your Neighbor is about developing a deeper understanding of one another and all the diverse cultures and experiences that make the patchwork of American society rich and beautiful.

We invite you to visit: www.knowyourneighbor.us where you can sign a pledge to support this effort, and access resources that will help you Know Your Neighbor.

At Muslim Advocates, we believe this is an especially important moment to stand up for understanding and respect. We cannot let misunderstanding multiply the hatred that has followed recent tragedies.

Muslim Advocates partnered with allied organizations including the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, ACLU, Interfaith Alliance, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and the National Sikh Campaign to create the Know Your Neighbor project.
