Muslim Advocates Commends President Obama for His Call for Unity and Repudiation of Religious Discrimination and Hatred

We are heartened by President Obama’s call for Americans to face our nation’s challenges together and his repudiation of unconstitutional and discriminatory proposals that divide Americans along faith lines. As incidents of hate and violence against American Muslims rise, and as prominent public leaders use irresponsible and incendiary rhetoric to pander to Americans’ worst fears, we commend the President for his call for a common defense of American values and for his leadership at this critical time in our country.

President Obama remarked: “[I]t is the responsibility of all Americans – of every faith – to reject discrimination. It is our job to reject religious tests on who we admit into this country. It is our responsibility to reject proposals that Muslim Americans should somehow be treated differently. Because when we travel down that road, we lose…We were founded upon a belief in human dignity – that no matter who you are, or where you come from, or what you look like, or what religion you practice, you are equal in the eyes of God and equal in the eyes of the law.” – President Barack Obama, December 6, 2015
