“Wonk Room” Blog Urges President to Reform Charitable Giving Laws & Build Bridges to the World’s Muslims
Writing in a May 17 blogitorial on the Center for American Progresses’ Wonk Room page, Muslim Advocates Muslim Charities Works Counsel Akil Vohra argues that President Obama and Congress can build stronger ties to Muslim nations by making it easier for American Muslims to give charity abroad. Vohra details specific steps our government can take to safely reform punitive laws and provisions enacted over the past decade that are discouraging Americans from giving charity to parts of the world where it is most needed.
Earlier this year–on March 23–Muslim Advocates and 19 other American Muslim charities sent a letter to President Obama., urging him to keep commitments that he made last year to American Muslims in his Cairo address to Muslims around the world.
