Muslim Advocates Op-Ed Calls New TSA Rule for Travelers “Wrongheaded”
An opinion piece by Muslim Advocates Executive Director Farhana Khera, New Travel Directive is Wrongheaded, was published on Monday, January 12, in the Miami Herald, the Sacramento Bee and the Raleigh News & Observer, among others. The op-ed criticizes the new travel policy issued by the Transportation Security Administration on Sunday evening for promoting “dragnet profiling [that] is virtually worthless in detecting actual criminal behavior.” Ms. Khera proposes, instead, that TSA staff be trained to look for the behavioral clues and facts about individuals that many leading security experts tell us are the real indicators of criminal behavior. Muslim Advocates has also issued a legal advisory for travelers passing through any of the 14 nations.
